Public servers & test servers
When Vanya is installed for the first time, it sets up connections to three FHIR servers for you to use for testing purposes. Two of these are public test servers that do not require any authentication. The other is a test server we created and populated with data on Microsoft Azure that uses OAuth authentication. Read credentials are configured for this server.
Test FHIR Servers
- Firely Test Server
This is the default server the first time you run Vanya. It’s maintained by Firely and contains a lot of test data entered by users over time. It’s stable and well maintained.
- HAPI Test Server (R4)
This is a public R4 server maintained by Smile Digital Health. It’s the most heavily used publicly accessible FHIR test server and as such contains a lot of data. The server does go down frequently, so if you encounter error messages using it, connect to one of the other servers.
- Vanya Test Server (Azure)
Our own test server that we populated with thousands of resources generated by Synthea. The data is rich and makes for a good test server. As it uses OAuth authentication with a client id and client secret, it’s a good model to examine when configuring your own server access in Vanya.
To change the active server, click the connect button next to the server you want to connect to. To return to the server list at any time, click the Home button on the Vanya toolbar. Once you are connected to a server, click any resource type in Vanya’s resource list to see the most recently updated resources.
